Get ready for a great evening of fine wine, good food, and amazing auction items... That's right, Reading between the Wines, presented by Bank of America, is back!

This year, New York Times Best Seller Lisa See is our featured author.  Lisa See will present and discuss her incredible written work, including her newest book, Dreams of Joy (May 2011), boasting the same timeless themes – mother love, romantic love and love of the country – found in her previous bestselling novels.

Along with Lisa See's presentation and book signing, Reading between the Wines features some of the best local cuisine that Central Florida has to offer. Guests will be able to sample scrumptious dishes from area restaurants and taste sweet and savory wines from international wineries. Did you know that the Adult Literacy League serves adults originally from over 50 different countries who speak more than 20 different languages? Though the cultures, customs, and traditions may be different, each hard-working learner is unified in one thing... Improving themselves and their community.

Over 85% of our learners come from countries other than the United States of America. We have learners from Haiti, Kyrgyzstan, Canada, France, and even the little island of Guam. Of all the countries, Colombia is the highest represented with 78 adults born there. The USA follows with 77, and Haiti with 67.

Fun facts about our learner's countries of birth!

The country closest to Antarctica: Argentina
The country closest to the North Pole: Russia
The smallest country: Grenada, 344 square kilometers
The largest country: Russia, 17,075,400 square kilometers (that's 49,637 Grenadas!)

Hello Friends of Literacy!

.....
The end of 2011 is only weeks away and the Adult Literacy League has served nearly 2,000 adults and more than 500 children and their parents through our family and adult education programs. This year, we’ve had over 30 small group classes meet on a weekly basis and 430 tutor-student pairs meet throughout Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. We are serving students from 55 different countries who speak more than 37 different languages! We're so grateful to have friends like you--donors, volunteers, and literacy ambassadors--to help us share the gift of literacy with Central Floridians who need it the most.

Volunteer Coordinator Zach has gotten a jump start on his New Year's Resolution for 2012...
